Job Description:
Job Title: Welder and Fabricator – Aluminum MIG (3G)
Job Description

This position is for an experienced aluminum MIG welder and fabricator who works primarily on aircraft ground support equipment and large fabricated structures. You will perform critical 3G (vertical) aluminum MIG welds using 5053 wire on platforms, frames, and assemblies, while reading and interpreting blueprints and welding symbols and working independently in a production environment. This is not an entry-level role and requires solid, real-world aluminum welding and fabrication experience.

Responsibilities

  • Review blueprints, welding symbols, and job travelers at the start of each shift to understand job requirements and specifications.
  • Set up MIG welding equipment for aluminum, including selecting and adjusting gas, wire, and heat settings appropriate for the material and weld position.
  • Position and secure large assemblies, platforms, frames, and structural components using jigs, clamps, and fixtures to ensure accurate fit-up.
  • Perform 3G (vertical) aluminum MIG welds using 5053 wire on aircraft ground support equipment and large fabricated structures.
  • Weld aluminum components in flat, vertical, and occasional overhead positions while maintaining consistent quality and appearance.
  • Grind, blend, and finish aluminum welds to meet structural and cosmetic requirements.
  • Read and interpret fabrication drawings and welding blueprints to determine dimensions, tolerances, and weld locations.
  • Use fabrication and fitting skills to align, assemble, and prepare components prior to welding.
  • Inspect completed welds and assemblies for quality, accuracy, and adherence to specifications, making adjustments as needed.
  • Work independently in a production environment, managing time and tasks to meet schedule and throughput expectations.
  • Follow shop safety procedures and proper handling of welding equipment, tools, and materials.
Essential Skills
  • 2+ years of aluminum MIG welding experience in a real-world, production or fabrication environment.
  • Proficiency with 3G (vertical) aluminum MIG welding, specifically using 5053 wire.
  • Demonstrated experience welding thicker aluminum materials, not limited to light-gauge production work.
  • Ability to weld aluminum in flat, vertical, and overhead positions as required.
  • Ability to independently set up MIG welding machines for aluminum, including gas selection, wire setup, and heat settings.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints, fabrication drawings, and welding symbols.
  • Experience grinding, blending, and finishing aluminum welds to meet quality and appearance standards.
  • Solid fabrication and fitting skills for positioning and securing large assemblies using jigs, clamps, and fixtures.
  • Competence with MIG welding processes and equipment in a production environment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • TIG welding experience on aluminum or related materials is preferred.
  • Experience working with aircraft ground support equipment or large structural fabrications is beneficial.
  • Ability to interpret job travelers and follow documented work instructions.
  • Experience with general fabrication tools and equipment, including grinders and fitting tools.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality, structurally sound welds.
  • Ability to work independently and stay productive with minimal supervision.
Why Work Here?

You join a production-focused fabrication environment where your advanced aluminum welding skills are valued and put to use on substantial, technically engaging projects. The work offers steady, hands-on activity, clear expectations, and the opportunity to refine your craft on complex structures. You work alongside skilled tradespeople in a setting that rewards reliability, quality, and the ability to work independently while contributing to the success of the team.

Work Environment

The role is based in a non–climate-controlled fabrication shop working on aircraft ground support equipment and large aluminum structures. The schedule follows a 1st shift Monday through Friday with typical hours of 6:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with Saturdays as needed, and may include work on an afternoon or evening shift (such as 3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.) depending on production requirements. You work around welding equipment, grinders, jigs, clamps, and large assemblies in an active production environment where appropriate workwear and protective equipment are required.
